“The king is going to take his throne this year, sit back and watch” – Declan Geraghty wins convincingly to set up mega fight in March

After a tough last few months with an injury and a cancelled fight, Irish super featherweight Declan Geraghty returned to winning ways after a comfortable victory on February 10th 2018 in The Devenish Complex in Belfast. The fighter formerly known as “Pretty boy” won a four round fight against a very game opponent in Edwin Bertha.

From the offset  Declan Geraghty gained Berthas respect for his size and power advantage by taking the center of the ring and sitting behind his jab. With snapping jabs piercing through Berthas defense and putting weight behind his left hand when countering, immediately Bertha was on the back foot for the rest of the fight.  With a noticeable reach advantage the MTK Global fighter Geraghty found his range very quickly within the fight and started to read Edwin Berthas punches and looks. As the fight progressed Bertha started to go into his shell as Geraghty was countering every shot thrown, and struggled to close range as Geraghtys fast counters were visibly starting to wear him down. From the second round onwards, Geraghty very much cruised to victory and looked incredibly comfortable.

The fight looked to be the ideal setting for the MTK Global fighter to set up his big fight this March, which may possibly line up for a title fight in 2018. After a tough time with a hand injury cancelling his grudge match with heated rival Jono Carroll this fight looks to have put the Dublin native right back on track for an exciting 2018. With his new Podcast called “Scrapchat” with Shane Kirkwood and youtube channel, Geraghty looks to be growing in popularity in the boxing community, not only the Irish boxing community. With his humble personality and honest opinions, Geraghty looks to be creating a impressive following in boxing media.

MTK Global will be announcing his upcoming showdown within the next couple of weeks. After Geraghtys win he is already looking ahead to his next fight with a recent Instagram post stating “Im a rangey danger mother f?@!er whos coming for any super-featherweight with titles! The King is gonna take his throne this year, sit back and watch, next stop Manchester to whip some ass”. With a division blessed with talent, including Gervonta Davis, Lomachencko, Jose Pedraza, Stephen Smith, Tevin Farmer, Machado and Berchelt, Geraghty could be part of some very exciting fights over the next 18 months.
