Crawford & Lomachenko Duke It Out For Fighter Of The Year

This year had its share of great fighters, from the big heavyweights down to the tiny strawweights but we narrowed it down to two amazing pugilists. Both could be considered top pound for pound boxer in the world. Of course, I’m talking about none other than Terence Crawford and Vasyl Lomachenko.

Terence Crawford is nominated for his wins over Felix Diaz, Julius Indongo, and for unifying the junior welterweight division. None of which are an easy task. However, knocking Indongo out in just three rounds is a huge statement. Boxing fans constantly complain that they want one true world champion and that is exactly what Terence Crawford is. He is the undisputed junior welterweight champion of the world and is the ONLY person to hold all four world titles in that division.

On the flip side of the coin, Vasyl Lomachenko has not just beaten his opponents this year he has stopped them, and in some cases, even made them quit. Now making an opponent quit can be a somewhat common in the sport of boxing. However, making a top pound for pound guy like Guillermo Rigondeaux quit says that you are in an elite class all your own.

Here at Heavy Bag Boxing we are a democracy, not a dictatorship. While I personally leaned more towards awarding Vasyl Lomachenko fighter of the year, the majority of my colleagues felt the Terence Crawford edged him out with his unification. So, it’s my pleasure to announce our 2017 Fight of the Year, Terence Crawford!

HONORABLE MENTION: Anthony Joshua

Joshua’s dramatic TKO victory over Wladamir Klitschko was enough to get his name thrown into the hat but was he was ultimately beat out by Crawford and Lomachenko.
