Fans Disappointed with Pacquiao-Vargas, Hoping for Crawford

Who else is disappointed that Manny’s opponent for November is Jesse Vargas? Please don’t all raise your hands at once, it was a rhetorical question. I know you all want to see him fight Terence Crawford but you will have to wait for that. Actually, you may never see it but if Bob Arum gets his way you will.

Everyone knows that styles make fights, and it’s styles that may prevent this fight from happening. Pacquiao is one of the eras greatest fighters but one of his weaknesses is counter punchers. He has always had problems with great counter punchers, from Marquez to Mayweather, not to say he loses all the fights but he definitely struggles. So, why get in there with Crawford, who is arguably, the best counter puncher currently? In Pacquiao’s team’s mind it’s just not worth it. At least, not worth in monetarily. However, it would be a big statement for his legacy.

On the flip side, Bob Arum will do everything in his power to eventually make Pacquiao-Crawford a reality. Arum is a smart man, he has been in the business a long time. Once Pacquiao is gone Arum and his company Top Rank will no longer have the big Pay Per View meal ticket. So what Bob wants is for Crawford to beat Pacquiao and “pass the pay per view torch”, so to speak.

We know Pacquiao is coming out of retirement to face Jesse Vargas in November but what we don’t know is if he will continue to fight or go back into retirement. If Manny looks good against Vargas and he wants to continue to fight after, then there is a good chance you will see him take on Crawford. If he struggles or possibly loses, then you can count on Manny hanging up his gloves for good.

We want to hear from you. Do you think we will see Pac-Crawford? Drop us a line below or on any of our social media which can found at the top of the page.

Thanks for reading and being a fan of the sweet science.
