Roman “Rocky” Martinez is no easy out for any fighter but that is exactly how Vasyl Lomachenko made him look this past Saturday. His speed, power, and footwork had Rocky wondering what hit him and from what direction it came from. Lomachenko was always changing angles, he even landed a punch from behind Martinez. It was simply a marvelous performance from, in my eyes, a future pound for pound star.
The way Lomachenko fights reminds me a lot of a younger Pacquiao, except more methodical in his approach. With Mayweather and Pacquiao both retired, the sport of boxing needs a superstar and I believe that superstar could be Lomachenko. He has all the intangibles necessary, not to mention the athleticism.
According to Lomachenko’s team he will make one defense of his new title and then move up in weight once again to (135 lbs) lightweight. The one defense is expected to be against Orlando Salido. Salido owns the only professional win over Lomachenko and he desperately wants to settle the score.
So I ask you the Heavy Bag Boxing fans, is Lomachenko in your top 10 pound for pound? Do you think he can be the next superstar in the sport? Let us know your thoughts.
Thanks for reading and being a fan of the sweet science.
