The Battle of LA: Mares vs Santa Cruz

On another edition of Premier Boxing Champions on ESPN, a great fight will showcase two very popular boxers within the Mexican-American boxing community. Abner Mares vs. Leo Santa Cruz will face each other in the square circle in a much anticipating fight. Both of these fighter are part of the ever growing stable of fighters managed by Al Haymon. This fight will take place on August 29, 2015 in the Los Angeles Staples Center, hence the battle for LA. Both of these fighters train east of Downtown LA, and it is safe to say that the majority of Los Angelinos know and are fans of Mares and Santa Cruz. Expect a sale out and a split crowd come fight night. The thing with both Mares and Santa Cruz is that both fighters are easily liked and their styles are fan friendly.

In terms of styles, this fight can benefit Abner Mares, as a Mexican Olympian, can out box Leo Santa Cruz. On the flip side, Santa Cruz has never been hurt, dropped, or knocked out in a fight, unlike Mares first round knockout loss over a year ago. If you look at both fighters resumes, this will be must see TV come August 29. In the past PBC has been criticized for several mismatches, but a Mares vs. Santa Cruz is everything but a mismatch.

If you live in the LA area make sure to get your tickets at and enjoy this exciting event. If push comes to shove, make sure to tune in on ESPN come fight night and don’t miss a possible candidate for fight of the year type fight.

Team Mares or Team Santa Cruz? Who cares! Let them bang it out and May the best man win.
