Unbeaten world title contender Tyson Fury (23-0 17KO) faces Christian Hammer (17-3 10KO) at the O2 Arena, London on the 28th February.
In his last outing, Fury easily out boxed Derek Chisora (RTD Round 10) in November. He showed he does possess technical ability which many have questioned throughout his career. He used his long reach to great effect punishing Chisora from a distance who had no answers. With both fighters improving massively since their last bout, it was clearly evident Fury was the one to potentially make a dent in the heavyweight division.
Hammer has only been stopped three times in his seven year career. His last defeat came back in 2010, since then he’s won 10 fights including a UD over Kevin Johnson, who Fury easily dealt with 12 months earlier. Hammer’s durability could be a key factor in causing an upset. He’s ranked 3rd by the WBO which has caused controversy as Hammer hasn’t beat a fighter in the top 15 of any organization in his professional career.
Going into the fight, Fury has had an unfamiliar yet welcoming addition to his camp, his father John Fury has returned from his prison sentence. Fury feels more focussed than ever and he’s in no doubt he’ll do the business come Saturday. “It’s given me a lot of motivation, something to go on and get a world title now he’s back.”
With Fury guaranteed a world title fight if he comes through unscathed, Hammer believes he has the ability to ruin the lucrative plans that are in place for Fury. “I’m coming here to do one thing and one thing only, to beat Tyson Fury and earn my right to fight Klitschko.”
In the past few days, Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, has been in New York having encouraging negotiations for a potential fight with either Deontay Wilder or Wladimir Klitschko. “He will fight one of them. That’s 100% what will happen. We’re more or less there.” With confidence seemingly oozing out of the Fury camp, expectation levels have never been higher knowing the biggest fights are waiting just around the corner.
