Pascal walks through the gun-shy Bute

I was really excited for Jean Pascal versus Lucian Bute last year but with both guys losing, the supposed “Canadian Super Fight” lost its steam. This fight now stood as turning point in both guys careers. One will go on to bigger and better things, while the other becomes a gatekeeper.

As the fight started one thing become blatantly clear, Bute’s confidence simply wasn’t there. He was very jittery and seemed scared to pull the trigger. This lead to Pascal walking away with damn near every round with his heavy power punching. Pascal would even sit in the corner, wait for Bute to throw something and then return fire. In the eleventh round it finally sunk in that he would need a knockout to win and Bute finally let his hands go. Surprisingly Bute found some success but it was only due to Pascal playing possum and allowing himself to get hit once again. I can honestly say I don’t think Bute hurt Pascal, not even once.

The question now is “What is next for Pascal?” Well with this stupid “Cold War” between the promoters and channels his options are limited. They are even more limited by himself because he stated after the fight that he would not be interested in fighting Adonis Stevenson. Whatever he decides to do next Pascal has made his case for a light heavyweight title opportunity.
