Our Predictions for Andrade-Martirosyan, Donaire-Darchinyan and Garcia-Martinez

This Saturday, Corpus Christi, Texas will host a triple header full of superstars as Demetrius Andrade takes on Vanes Martirosyan for the vacant WBO 154lb title. The undercard will also see Vic Darchinyan’s rematch with Nonito Donaire and the main event will be Rocky Martinez defending his title against Mikey Garcia. Here is a quick rundown of how our team imagines these fights going.

Lucas- “This is truly a 50/50 fight. I just feel style clash will favor Andrade and his volume punching.”

Rudy-“It’s put up or shut for vanes. He is pretty much ‘inexisting’ right now and a victory might just put him on people’s mouths again. Vane’s experience gives him an edge, and should get a MD.”

Rob-“This is a clash of two former Olympians, I just feel with Vanes experience it will be able to carry him through the victory.”

Tim-“One of the few times there’s a genuinely 50/50 feel about a fight, this is one to look forward too. Andrade doesn’t know how to lose, Vanes has boxed at a higher level and brings more experience, both are well schooled Olympians, and both can punch. That he’s fought and dealt with Lara in better fashion than the majority of opponents gives Vanes the edge for me, but Andrade is confident and tricky and we will find out just how good he is as he steps in with by far his best opponent to date.”

Rob-“Let’s see how strong Donaire’s will is after his heartbreaking loss to Rigo. I believe Donaire will look rusty in this fight but will out power Vic in his return to the ring.”

Lucas-“I mean no disrespect to Darchinyan, I am a fan of his but I can’t see him winning this fight. Donaire is stronger, faster and more skilled. Expect a KO or mid fight stoppage.”

Rudy-“This fight is somewhat of a ‘tune-up’ for Donaire. But Vic isn’t called ‘Raging Bull’ for nothing. I really don’t understand why this fight was made, given the fact that donaire killed him on their first meet, however, this fight will be interesting and fun to watch being that Vic has a lot to prove and avenge knockout lost. With all that said, Vic’s style is tailor made for donaire, and if donaire’s boxing IQ and hand speed is on point we might just see a replay of their previous fight. I predict we see a tough raging bull, and a little ring rust on donaire, but donaire pulls off a UD victory.”

Tim- “a year ago, Donaire was taking the plaudits as fighter of the year and touted as the ‘next pacquiao’. Now he’s in a fight that will determine his future against an opponent hell bent on revenge for his defeat to nonito in their fight 6 years ago. On paper this shld be a blowout win for Donaire, but questions about his application and conditioning hover, as well as his mindset after a schooling from Rigondeaux. We should know pretty early if this is going to be competitive or if, as expected , Donaire has too much for Vic. If it goes past 7 or 8 rounds then Donaire might be in trouble.”

Rudy-“The fact that it’s a Mexico vs Puerto Rico Classic, Mikey will destroy Martinez in less than 5 rounds. I believe Mikey will make a strong statement in this fight, and will make this fight seem easy. Martinez is no joke, but Mikey is on another level and will be too much for Rocky. I predict a 4th round KO by a solid right hand.”

Lucas-“I expect Garcia to thoroughly destroy Martinez. It’s going to take a much better fighter than Rocky Martinez to derail Mikey Garcia from becoming a pound for pound fighter. This kid is quickly becoming elite and is in a group all his own.”

Rob-“Never underestimate a man with the name Rocky. I feel that Garcia is on a different level then Rocky and is able to pull out the win but Rocky makes it much harder than expected.”

Tim- “Garcia definitely feels Martinez has been underestimated and Rocky thinks so too. In his mind he should be favourite and will go into the fight knowing he is comfortable at this weight. However, if a drained Mikey could be so dominant last time out vs JuanMa then its hard to see anything other than a stoppage victory for Mikey, although it may come late on as Martinez is a game, durable sort.”
