In a shocking turn of events the IBF has ordered Bernard Hopkins to defend his belt IMMEDIATELY against Sergey Kovalev. This coming right after news that Hopkins-Murat was canceled, due to Murat not able to receive a visa from the United States. Rumor has it that Russia wants to have Hopkins-Kovalev on the undercard to Wladamir Klitschko vs Alexander Povetkin.
Like they say “When a door closes another one opens”. Murat-Hopkins door closed and it opened a door to a more entertaining option Hopkins-Kovalev. Kovalev has power in both if his hands and is a relentless stalker in the ring. Will he get the fight with Hopkins? I don’t know, Bhop has a lot of options including Nathan Cleverly and the newly crowned champion, Adonis Stevenson. Unfortunately Kovalev’s name isn’t worth a lot on paper right now. Hopkins-Kovalev would be a awesome fight but I’m expecting Hopkins to forfeit the belt and not do the mandatory defense. What do you boxingheads think? Who do you fans want to see Hopkins up against next? Comment below or tweet us @TheHeavyBag. Thanks for reading and being a fan of the sweet science.
