HBO Will No Longer Show Golden Boy Fighters

Today HBO went on record and told the boxing world that they will no longer be doing business with Oscar De La Hoya’s Goldenboy Promotions, including young up and coming star Adrien Broner aka Mr. HBO. It seems to me that this “Cold War” or feud between Top Rank and Goldenboy has now transferred over into the broadcasting channels. This doesn’t hurt HBO, Showtime, Golden Boy or Top Rank. Who it really hurts is the fans and most of all the sport.

It’s bad enough that Golden Boy fighters won’t fight Top Tank fighters and vice versa but now even if they decide to come to a agreement who knows if the fight will be allowed to appear on HBO or Showtime. Basically this is a battle of the rich getting richer instead of putting the fans wants or the sports needs ahead of lining their pockets.

Golden Boy has a good stable of fighters but a lot of them are being misused. For example Gary Russel Jr, Peter Quillin but most of all Adrien Broner. Broner has signed his next fight against Paulie Malignaggi at welterweight, completely skipping the most competitive division, the junior welterweights. The junior welterweight division includes Lucas Matthysse, Danny Garcia, Lamont Peterson, Amir Khan, Zab Judah and those are just with Golden Boy. Broner might as well admit he is being protected. Maybe HBO was tired of the mismatches.

The bottom line is this hurts the fans and our beloved sport of boxing. This feud has killed 2 mega fights already Pacquiao-Mayweather and Mares-Donaire. Enough is enough guys, fans speak up.
